How to Make The Most of TikTok’s Features
There are many TikTok features that you may have heard terms for thrown around, but never known how to use. Here’s how to use the different TikTok features you may or may not be aware of.
Stitches on TikTok are a popular feature that allows you to take a snippet (up to five seconds) from someone else’s video and add your own video as a follow-up.
A stitch is one of the more popular TikTok features that lets you take a snippet (up to five seconds) from someone else’s video and add your own video as a follow-up. Instead of the split-screen setup you see with duets, a stitch shows the original video first, then immediately plays your new video. Think of it as a way to "continue the story" or provide a direct response to the original content.
You can use stitches to elaborate on a topic, counter an argument or show your version of something that the original creator has done. As an example, in this video, TikTok user @ottilie.edu elaborates on @trashling’s video by adding more detail and scientific fact.
To create a stitch, find the video you want to respond to, tap the “share” button on the right, and select “stitch.” From there, choose the section (up to five seconds) you want to keep, then record your own follow-up. Once you’re happy with your addition, just hit post.
Stitches are versatile and popular for reactions, follow-ups, and adding extra insights to existing videos. They’re great for trends where creators respond to open-ended questions or challenges. You’ll also find users stitched into product reviews, helpful tips, or even just sharing their take on what they’ve seen.
As an example, TikTok user @christxiee stitches a video showing her experience with a product that the original creator, @glowwithava is using.
While both duets and stitches let you interact with other creators’ videos, duets use a split-screen format where both videos play side-by-side. Stitches, however, play the original clip first and then transition into your new video.
