Affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing is a performance-based marketing strategy where brands reward affiliates for driving traffic or sales to their products.

What is an affiliate?

An affiliate is someone, usually a creator or an influencer, who partners with a brand to promote their products and earns a commission on any sales made through their unique link or discount code. It’s a simple way to turn recommendations into a revenue stream.

What is affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a performance-based marketing strategy where brands reward affiliates for driving traffic or sales to their products. According to a survey of 2,270 affiliate marketers by Authority Hacker, the “average” affiliate marketer earns over $8,000 monthly, and 35 percent of respondents use social media platforms to sell, thus making it a strategy that works for both brands and influencers.

How does affiliate marketing work?

Affiliate marketing is basically about getting paid for sharing the stuff you love. You include your affiliate link in your social media content—think Instagram posts, TikToks, or YouTube videos. When your followers click through and buy something, you earn a cut of the sale. It’s a win-win; the brand gets new customers, and you get to make money from content you’re already sharing and creating.

Plus, you have the freedom to promote products that genuinely fit with your vibe, making it feel less like a sales pitch and more like a helpful recommendation.

How to start affiliate marketing?

Getting started with affiliate marketing is easier than you might think:

  1. Research: First, do a little research to find affiliate programs that align with the products you already use and love. Popular options include Amazon Associates, Amazon Influencer Program, CJ Affiliate, or Rakuten Advertising, which offer a huge variety of products to promote, or niche-specific programs like those for beauty, tech, or fitness products.
  2. Get your unique link: Once you’ve found the right affiliate program, sign up and get your unique affiliate links or discount codes. Start by incorporating these links naturally into your content—whether it’s a tutorial, a review, or just a casual mention in a post. Remember, authenticity is key. Your audience will appreciate honest recommendations over anything that feels too salesy.
  3. Track performance: Finally, track your performance. Most affiliate programs offer dashboards where you can monitor clicks, conversions, and earnings. This will help you refine your strategy and see what resonates most with your audience.
