September 2025 Shareholder Update
Hi there,
Throughout September, we continued to see positive growth across key metrics. Most notably, we added more than $1M in cash over Q3 and finished September with $294K in net income, bringing year-to-date profit to $1.59M. It was our third straight month of $300K+ cash growth, and we’re on track to cross $4M in total cash on hand in October, a remarkable turnaround from our $2.7M low earlier this year.
This consistency is the result of the Buffer team staying focused and deeply committed to building for our customers.
Looking ahead, we’re investing in the foundations to support this momentum: expanding our team, preparing for our Community launch, and continuing to refine how we serve creators and small businesses around the world.
Read on for the September results and my reflections on what we’re learning as we grow.
Key numbers
Notes:
- Revenue rose $12K to $1.95M. It’s worth noting that gains in monthly and yearly revenue (+$22K) were partially offset by lower mobile revenue (-$7K) and higher refunds (-$3K).
- Cash balance increased $305K to $3.89M, our third consecutive month of $300K+ growth. We brought in $1.94M during the month, our second-highest this year, and spent $1.63M, including a $71K retreat deposit and several annual hosting payments.
- Margins remained strong with Gross Margin at 84%, EBITDA Margin at 15.8%, and Rule of 40 at 39.6%. Net income finished at $294K, bringing YTD net income to $1.59M and projections for FY25 to $2.28M.
Note-worthy Updates & Reflections
Building the Team to Support Growth
We’re in a season of hiring as we continue to double down on areas that are working for us and invest in new parts of the product and our team.
We’re getting ready to welcome two new engineers and a growth marketer, and we’re continuing to expand across Customer Advocacy, Marketing, People, and Engineering. You can view open roles on our Journey page.
Each of these roles is key to supporting our growth, from improving product velocity to serving more customers faster.
Quality of Life Improvements
A small group of Buffer teammates partnered cross-functionally to remove friction in several key areas of our product. We’ve been quite pleased with the end results and shared all 18 changes to Buffer in this blog post.
Improving our Zapier support
This last month, we added support for to our Zapier integration after several user requests. Buffer users who leveraging Zapier can now add multiple images to TikTok posts, add a first comment on LinkedIn, and add topics to their Threads posts zia Zapier.

Closed beta API
We are on track to release our closed-beta API in December, here is the latest update from our API team, who attended a conference together recently. We’ve had a lot of interest and excitement around this project and are looking forward to opening the API more widely up in 2026.
