You can now generate AI images and share them across your social platforms with Buffer – all thanks to Apple Intelligence and their new Image Playground app.

Imagine having a creative assistant to turn your ideas into graphics in seconds. That's Image Playground in a nutshell. It's a simple way to generate unique images by describing what you want to see.

To use this feature, you’ll need:

  1. A compatible Apple device with Apple Intelligence. Apple is rolling this out in stages.
  2. The Buffer iOS app

Here’s how to create and schedule a post using Image Playground and Buffer:

  1. Open up the Buffer app
  2. Tap to create a new idea or post
  3. Tap the attachment icon
  4. Select Image Playground
  5. Describe the image you want to create or add an image from your phone
  6. Choose a style for your image
  7. Add a caption (optional)
  8. Add it to your queue!

And that’s it! You’ve just used AI to schedule an image to all your social platforms in less than two minutes.

When to use AI-generated images

Like many other folks at Buffer, I believe AI is an incredible tool that assists and unlocks creativity. However, it should be applied thoughtfully and strategically. It shouldn’t replace creative work, and it’s not a silver bullet.

Here are some examples of where AI-generated visuals can help you elevate your content:

  • Abstract ideas that are tricky to photograph — for example, maybe you are sharing a social post about “imposter syndrome”
  • Data visualizations and infographics
  • Consistent graphics for marketing campaigns
  • Illustrating and celebrating personal achievements
  • Hypothetical and futuristic scenarios and ideas

On the flip side, I’d be careful about using AI-generated images for:

  • Representing or recreating images of other people
  • Product photography
  • Anything that requires photographic accuracy

Some other things to keep in mind

Creating great AI images is part art, part experiment. The magic happens when you combine AI's capabilities with your unique perspective.

Some tips to generate eye-catching images:

  • Start with a clear concept
  • Be patient with the process
  • Refine your descriptions
  • Learn from each attempt

Remember, most AI-generated images won’t be perfect on first try. It's okay to generate multiple versions with slight variations.
