Chief of Staff @ Buffer

I’m thrilled to announce that Patrik Ward has completed his 45-day Buffer Bootcamp and is joining us full-time as Buffer’s newest Happiness Hero!

One of the most immediately noticeable qualities about Patrik is that he seems to exist with a laugh always just under the surface. Even when focusing, he is one conversational shift away from splitting into a huge, encouraging grin that spreads to every face and lifts every nearby spirit. It has an effect on meetings that I couldn’t have imagined. With Patrik around, everything is one note lighter, and thus ideas are shared more openly and decisions are made with more enthusiasm.

Patrik’s experience and talents spread the startup gamut, and he fears no task. He has often volunteered to fill a need and then completed a first draft before I have even seen the first email. He consistently takes new ideas and adds incredible creativity and direction. I find myself hesitating to move forward without Patrik’s feedback, because I know he will make every project better.

With his drive and diverse interests, it’s no surprise that Patrik has a variety of personal goals. Currently, he is on a lifelong quest to learn to drive/pilot/operate every method of transportation and is currently taking flying lessons with the goal of getting his pilot’s license.

We ask new team members to write a little something about themselves for Buffer’s team page as well as answer a few fun questions (adapted from Vanity Fair‘s famous Proust questionnaire). Read on to get to know Patrik a little better:

On Buffer
It’s a complete privilege for me to have the opportunity to wake up each day and work alongside such talented and friendly team helping to create a great experience for our amazing community! I’ve also been blown away by how generous everyone in the Buffer community is with their time, ideas, and support.

Which talent would you most like to have?
I carry a huge admiration for the mental and creative leaps that astrophysicists make every day. I would love to have that capacity for advanced mathematics and abstract thinking!

What is your favorite journey?
Traveling across Ireland. I visited with my family last year and we had an incredible and emotional journey through one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been to. If you ever find yourself in that part of the world, Connemara is simply breathtaking!

If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?
I think I would be quite happy to come back as a clam or a Brachiosaurus.

Where are you most productive and happy?
In my office at home. I love being able to control my environment and it gives me a lot of flexibility to make small tweaks to improve my productivity. It’s also nice to be able to visit with friends and family for the occasional coworking session.

What do you most value in your friends?
Bravery and a good sense of humor!

We’re Sunsetting Pablo, Remix, and Stories Creator

Nine years ago, we decided to launch a new free product alongside Buffer. We called it Pablo, and it was a huge hit in our community. Within just seven months of its launch, half a million photos were created using Pablo. Similarly, we had the initial ideas for Stories Creator and Remix many years ago now. All three of these tools have been an important part of Buffer’s story. They’ve taught us lessons and helped us connect with a wider audience. In Pablo’s case, the idea for this tool happene
