Eric Khun

I’m so excited to share that Eric Khun has joined the Buffer team!

Eric joins us from Beijing, and his focus is on back-end development.

Eric was raised in France and fell in love with China when he went to Beijing for a year of school.

He’s been there for 3 years now, and has even worked on an Android app called PartyBeijing, which allows foreigners to find top event venues in Beijing and communicate with taxi drivers more easily by offering easy Chinese pronunciation guides. He has also worked on a 3D printer marketplace.

I asked Colin, a teammate who has worked a lot with Eric, to share some thoughts about Eric’s time at Buffer so far. What he wrote put a giant smile on my face:

“Ever since Day One of bootcamp, Eric’s been an absolute bundle of energy. He has an infectious enthusiasm which is a joy to behold, and I always look forward to our chats because I can’t help but be inspired by his positivity! He’s a fearless developer, too, and has jumped in with both feet into various different pieces of the app, including the infrastructure for our new Transparency Dashboard.

In fact, he was so productive and diving into so many things I had to add a special email label just so that I could try to keep track of all the different bits and pieces he has been working on! I’m excited to see how Buffer develops with Eric fully on board and can’t wait to see the results.”

We’ve all really loved getting to know Eric these past few months, and we’d love for you to get to know him as well!

We ask new team members to write a little something about themselves for Buffer’s team page as well as answer a few fun questions (adapted from Vanity Fair‘s famous Proust questionnaire). Read on to get to know Eric a little better:

Straight from Eric

I’m really curious about how things work and how to make life a little bit easier for people. I love digging into new problems and learning new technologies to solve them. Being surrounded with amazing people, in a such a great culture, makes me so proud of being part of Buffer.

What is your motto?

That’s a really tough one; if I have to chose it would be: Smile every chance you get—not because life has been easy, perfect, or exactly as you had anticipated, but because you choose to be happy and grateful for all the good things you do have and all the problems you know you don’t have.

I’m also huge fan of the The Holstee Manifesto.

What is your most treasured possession?

Memories. I have so many great memories I wouldn’t exchange for anything else. So great moments I have spent with friends or family, so many beautiful places I visited, and so many amazing people I had the chance to meet.

Which talent would you most like to have?

I’m always impressed by people playing a music instrument, especially piano, guitar or violin. That’s so wonderful to be able to express so many emotions through music. I wish I could play one of these instruments. Maybe is it time to learn?

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

I’m so lucky to have find the greatest love of my life: Molly. I’m so grateful to have someone supporting me every day and taking care of me. She’s so passionate about all the things she does, really patient, and always stays positive. Having her at my side every day makes me the happiest man in the world!

I also take the opportunity to express how much I love my family. I think I never really express it clearly, not sure if that’s because of the Asian thing? Haha. My parents have always been here for me, and always supportive. I think there is no word to express how lucky I am!

What is your current state of mind?

I’m so grateful to be able to write these lines now, having the opportunity to work with such amazing people, from anywhere in the world. Having someone I truly love, exceptional friends and an amazing family. I remember when Sunil asked me this question, I was rating my luck at 8 out of 10. I think it’s 10 now, or higher (Is it possible?).

Welcome, Eric!

You can find Eric on Twitter at @Eric_Khun if you’d like to say hi; he’s super fun to talk with!

I know I speak for the whole team in saying how delighted we are that Eric has made Buffer a part of his journey. Welcome, Eric!

Within just seven months of its launch, half a million photos were created using Pablo. Similarly, we had the initial ideas for Stories Creator and Remix many years ago now. All three of these tools have been an important part of Buffer’s story. They’ve taught us lessons and helped us connect with a wider audience. In Pablo’s case, the idea for this tool happene
