Q1: How can you structure your time to keep from feeling overwhelmed by social media?
From the community:
A1: To keep social media from becoming overwhelming, I regularly:
– Use the “do not disturb” feature on my phone from 10pm to 10am
– Switch off notifications
– Mute my phone or leave it in my purse
– Uninstall the Twitter app & only use the web interface #bufferchat

A1: Social Media can easily turn into a 24/7 job if you don’t set time to unplug. I try to make sure my phone isn’t the first or last thing I see in a day. I also use tools like @HeyOrca so I can schedule posts to post automatically #bufferchat

A1: ? I aim to 1-2 hour per day for both personal and business social media. In the evenings I cut work away unless I have something big the next day or an upcoming trip.#BufferChat

Q2: What are some ways to give your eyes and brain a break?
From the community:
A2: Putting your monitor or phone to sleep and taking a break outside or if it’s approximately 10,000 degrees like it is in Florida right now, head into a different room or area of the office to change up the scenery.#bufferchat pic.twitter.com/6PxfZW2MW9

A2: Get outside and leave technology inside! When we take our dog to the park in the evenings I try to always leave my phone in the house, or if I am alone and want the security of a phone w/p distraction I will turn it on airplane mode. #bufferchat #getoutside

Q3: Do you set goals or time limits around your social media use?
From the community:
A3: If it’s just me and my time, I work however much I need to. But once other people are in the picture, they become the priority. #bufferchat pic.twitter.com/MLow9qbhrB
— Rachel Wendte (@rkwendte) June 6, 2018
A3: For work, I do. I give myself an hour and a half to look through the timeline, post, and schedule posts for later. Afterwards, I’m basically here all the time haha. At least while I’m in the office. #bufferchat

A3: no i dont. but i did purge my followers – people who dont seem to be activate, people who are uninspiring, media outlets that focus too much on celebrities/drama #bufferchat

Q4: Do you have any “hacks” for avoiding burnout, like turning off notifications or using app blockers?
From the community:
A4 my best hack was accidentally dropping my phone down the loo! On one of the busiest weeks of the year . I had three days without in and working just from a desktop. It made me realise how much I am on it ! Won’t be doing it again though !!!! #bufferchat pic.twitter.com/RaIzaRSaBw

A4.
From one workaholic to the rest: take ?? time ?? to rest ??:
✔ Eliminate the guilt of being unavailable (or #outofoffice)
✔ Reduce the stress of returning to a ⛰ of ?
(@Inc shared a neat story on mandatory vacation policies recently)#bufferchat

A4. I’m against app blockers because I think it’s a band-aid fix. So I try to go from social, to reading articles about social, to then switching off completely. Or I schedule things for after work that force me to be busy. #bufferchat pic.twitter.com/JgruQbAC1U

Q5: How do you find a balance between managing your personal and professional social media?
From the community:
A5
My personal accounts = my brand. I try to be present when I can and when I have time to catch up
What I do for other clients & collaborations – it’s a different way of work, messaging and workflow (how often, using tools, analytics, etc)#bufferchat https://t.co/MesgzrBUC5
— Zala Bricelj (@ZalkaB) June 6, 2018
A5: I leave the office at the office. I realize this is a privledge that some don’t have, but I don’t touch my job’s accounts outside of work! Then my “me-time” is actually about me! #bufferchat
— Lauren Blake (@_lblake) June 6, 2018
A5: I’ve found that the more I spend on social for work, the less I can be bothered maintaining personal social media. Personal updates are few and far between. https://t.co/bzFqVpnwnI! – Laura #bufferchat pic.twitter.com/qNIsV05PWV

#bufferchat A5 ? Having to track how much time I spend on each task is a helpful function of being part of an agency team — I’m not going to be on personal social if I’m on the clock, and vice versa with work. I will use personal social in a brand advocate / SME capacity, though

A6 I love gardening. It just gets me so in tune with nature and I also find I am creative with my choice in plants and colors. Sometimes I just look at it and watch the squirrels, birds and rabbits that are always out there. It is very peaceful. #bufferchat

A6 The gym! I very much look forward to lift days. And I also love to cooking and food in general lol. Hit a personal best @ the gym and then immediately rewarded myself with a donut lo #bufferchat pic.twitter.com/GbDZAD9obu
